Our mission statement 


The Posse Units are comprised of both Regular Uniform Deputies and A large contingent Of Volunteer riders who perform mostly patrols within their perspective areas to help keep Our hiking, walking and site seeing areas free from those who choose to misuse that area Without thinking of the many people who use these same areas for the enjoyment of the whole family. The requirements are much different for the Uniform Reserve and the Volunteer Rider.
Reserve Deputy Sheriffs are utilized to supplement the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's law enforcement manpower. Like Full-time Deputies, Reserve Deputies are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. In most cases, Reserves are assigned to the same duties as Full-time Deputies. Since Reserve Deputies have the same powers of arrest as Full-time Deputies they are required by law to meet the same hiring, background, medical and psychological standards as Full-time Deputies.
Equestrian Volunteers on Patrol” are a ready resource available to assist individual stations and mounted units by patrolling remote areas of Los Angeles County on horseback. The use of Volunteers is the responsibility of the individual station coordinator and may be used to assist regional mounted units, as needed. The use of equestrian volunteers allows for a rapid increase in staff strength and provides the community with added protection by providing extra “eyes and ears.”
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION
Volunteers are required to complete a background investigation to evaluate their character and must successfully complete the required VOP training (EVOC optional). Equestrian Volunteers remain part of the station complement and their activities are coordinated through their home unit. All activities must be approved by the station coordinator as outlined in the VOP Manual issued by the Volunteer office.
