Our mission statement
The Posse Units are comprised of both Regular
Uniform Deputies and A large contingent Of
Volunteer riders who perform mostly patrols
within their perspective areas to help keep Our
hiking, walking and site seeing areas free from
those who choose to misuse that area Without
thinking of the many people who use these same
areas for the enjoyment of the whole family. The
requirements are much different for the Uniform
Reserve and the Volunteer Rider.
Reserve
Deputy Sheriffs are utilized to supplement the
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's law
enforcement manpower. Like Full-time Deputies,
Reserve Deputies are professionally trained and
duly sworn law enforcement personnel. In most
cases, Reserves are assigned to the same duties
as Full-time Deputies. Since Reserve Deputies
have the same powers of arrest as Full-time
Deputies they are required by law to meet the
same hiring, background, medical and
psychological standards as Full-time Deputies.
Equestrian Volunteers on Patrol” are a ready
resource available to assist individual stations
and mounted units by patrolling remote areas of
Los Angeles County on horseback. The use of
Volunteers is the responsibility of the
individual station coordinator and may be used
to assist regional mounted units, as needed. The
use of equestrian volunteers allows for a rapid
increase in staff strength and provides the
community with added protection by providing
extra “eyes and ears.”
